Ingredients for 8 servings

For the topping:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp. salt

8 Tbs. (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch cubes

2/3 cup sugar

Pinch of salt

2 Tbs. cornstarch

6 firm but ripe Anjou pears, peeled, halved, cored and diced (about 6 cups)

1 cup fresh or unthawed frozen cranberries, coarsely chopped

vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream for serving
