  • 4 carrots, cut into pieces
  • 1 3-inch piece ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 large onion, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup hot mustard
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 1 Tbsp five-spice powder
  • 1 12-oz can (11/2 cups) frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
  • 4 parsnips, peeled and cut into pieces
  • 1 4-lb beef brisket, lightly trimmed
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup hot Asian chili sauce (such as Sriracha)
  • 1 6-oz can tomato paste
  • 4 leeks, white parts only, cut into pieces
  • Chopped scallions, for garnish
