1/2 cup white or shiro miso paste (see Note)

1/4 cup mirin

1 pound black cod (a.k.a. butterfish) or local sea bass, about 1/2- to 1-inch thick and cut into 3-inch-wide fillets

Spicy green beans

1 pound green beans, trimmed

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 cloves minced garlic

1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce

1/4 teaspoon white pepper

1 tablespoon sesame oil
