2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

1 small Vidalia onion or 2 shallots, finely chopped

1 ½ dozen littleneck clams (cherrystones work well too), scrubbed

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1 cup dry white wine

½ cup clam juice (optional)

1 plum tomato, seeded and finely chopped

2 ears corn, shucked and kernels removed

1 tbsp chopped basil

1 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley (plus a little extra for garnish)
