1/2 cup sugar

2 cups cake flour

1/2 cup fine yellow cornmeal

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter, melted, plus more for serving

Pure maple syrup, for serving

Crisp bacon strips, for serving
