4 to 6 ounces (3/4 to 1 scant cup) flour

1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon salt

Sugar (optional; 1 tablespoon for a sweet recipe)

Vanilla extract (optional; 1/2 teaspoon for a sweet recipe)

Vegetable oil or unsalted butter, for greasing the pan
