  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 stick (2 ozs) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups merlot
  • 2 shallots, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp thyme leaves
  • 3 Asian pears, cored and sliced into eighths
  • 3 Gala apples, cored and sliced into eighths
