These cookies are soooo good. I had trouble finding the sorghum but I decided not to make them without it. It was worth the wait!! I made these cookies 4 different ways: the original recipe with walnuts and raisins, raisins only, with chocolate chips, and plain (just oatmeal). The original recipe is delicious, but they all came out chewy and moist. I also used brown sugar for sprinkling (recipe calls for regular sugar), it was a flavorful choice and it gave the cookies a golden brown color on top

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking soda

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

4 cups quick-cooking oats

1 1/2 cups raisins

1 1/4 cups sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger

1 cup butter or margarine, melted

1 cup sorghum

1 cup chopped walnuts

2 tablespoons hot water

2 large eggs, lightly beaten

1 to 2 tablespoons water

1/2 cup sugar
