3 small shallots, finely chopped

2 fresh hot green chiles, stemmed and chopped

8 to 10 fresh pumpkin greens with tender stems (6 ounces) finely chopped

(or substitute other leafy greens)

1/3 cup yellow split peas or yellow lentils, cleaned, rinsed and drained

2 cups water

3/4 teaspoon salt
