1 large onion
4 tbsps butter
8 quartered potatoes
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
2 cups whole milk
1 cup half half
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp basil
2 cups water
2 cans minced clams
2-4 (depending on how many people eating) sourdough Bread Bowls
Melt the butter and sauté onions until clear.
Rinse and peel potatoes.
Add water, potatoes, pepper, salt, garlic salt, garlic powder, basil to onion.
Simmer for 20 minutes with lid on pot.
Add clams, milk, half and half, cream of mushroom soup.
Simmer for 30 minutes to thicken. Keep covered with lid. As the chowder simmers stir to break up potatoes.
Cut circle out of the center of desired bread bowls and pour soup into bread bowl.
