I've never tasted them but I heard it has a jelly like substance in the middle but never really heard any thing about the outside!

Macaroons (or macarons) are delicate French sandwich cookies. They take a bit of practice, but deliver beautiful colors and all kinds of flavor options. Our pastry team is serving deep, royal purple Concord Grape Macaroons to go with the color scheme of the Academy Awards this year.

Ingredients

1/2 pound confectioner's sugar, about 1 7/8 cups

1/4 pound almond meal, about 1 cup

1/2 cup egg whites, about 4 large egg whites

Pinch cream of tartar

1 1/2 ounces granulated sugar, about 1/4 cup

5 drops red food coloring
