1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/4 teaspoon turmeric

Salt and freshly ground pepper

One 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

1 cup pitted prunes (about 20)

2 tomatoes, coarsely chopped

1 large sweet potato (1 pound), peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces

1 medium carrot, coarsely chopped

6 pitted dates, chopped

2 cups vegetable stock or low-sodium broth
