Ingredients

1 lime-sized (30gms) ball of tamarind

½ cup (100gms) red gram dal (you can use masur or tuvar dal)

3 tsp (15ml) oil

1 ½ tsp (7.5gms) coriander seeds

2 tsp (10gms) Bengal gram dal (chana dal)

10 (10gms) dry red chillies

5-6 black peppercorns

1 ½ tsp (7.5gms) salt

a pinch of asafetida (hing)

2 tbsp (10gms) curry leaves

1 (100gms) large tomato

1 tsp (5gms) ghee

1 tsp (5gms) mustard seeds

4 tbsp (20gms) coriander leaves
