1 1/2 cups water or vegetable stock

1 star anise

1 small cinnamon stick

1/4 cup dried cranberries or other dried fruits and/or nuts

zest of one small orange

1/2 tsp. chopped fresh herbs such as mint or flat leaf parsley

salt and fresh ground black pepper – to taste
