in water, then drained

1/4 lb. pearl barley

1/4 lb. pancetta, finely chopped

1 onion, peeled and finely chopped

1 potato, peeled and cut into 1/2'' cubes

1 stalk celery, diced

1/2 bunch fresh parsley, finely chopped

Leaves from 1 sprig fresh rosemary, finely chopped

6 fresh basil leaves, finely chopped

4 fresh sage leaves, finely chopped

1 bay leaf
