1/4 lb. butter

1 lb. hi-ratio shortening (hi-ratio meaning it contains emulsifiers, for a fluffier frosting. You can find this at your local grocer, usually right next to the butter and eggs)

1 tablespoon any clear flavoring (clear to keep the frosting white. Vanilla will usually do)

2 lbs. confectioners (powdered) sugar (If you can find one without added corn starch, you won’t have to sift!)

*up to 1/4 cup water may be added to soften the shortening
