1 cup white sugar

3 cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cardamom (preferably freshly ground, or at least fresh)

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 large eggs, lightly beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup dried currants

3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for cookie coating)

1 teaspoon ground cardamom (for cookie coating)
