3 oz. pancetta or bacon, chopped

3 shallots, minced

6 to 8 green onions, white and tender green portions, thinly sliced

7 cups chicken broth

10 oz. fresh or frozen petite peas

3/4 lb. pappardelle or wide egg noodles

3 Tbs. minced fresh flat-leaf parsley

2 Tbs. minced fresh mint

2 Tbs. finely snipped fresh chives

Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

1 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
