1 (32 ounce) jar butternut squash , puree

2 teaspoons salt , plus more, to taste

2 golden delicious apples , peeled, cored and thinly sliced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup heavy cream

fresh ground pepper , to taste

1 yellow onion , thinly sliced

2 1/2-3 cups chicken stock
