  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 tsp grated peeled fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups dried small red lentils
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsps butter or stick margarine
  • 3/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 Tbsp seeded minced jalapeño pepper
  • 3 Tbsps fresh lime juice
  • 2 Tbsps minced fresh cilantro
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 1/2 cups hot cooked brown basmati or brown rice
  • 5 Tbsps low-fat plain yogurt
