2 teaspoons soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon toasted Asian-style sesame seed oil

2 green onions

2 teaspoons canola oil, or as needed

8 to 10 ounces Chinese long beans, cut crosswise into 3/8 -inch pieces (see Note)

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 teaspoon grated or finely minced ginger

-- Kosher salt to taste

1 medium red bell pepper, cut into small dice, about 1 scant cup

1/2 to 1 teaspoon Asian fish sauce

1/2 to 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar, to taste

2 to 4 tablespoons low-salt chicken broth (optional)

1/2 pint toy box mixed cherry tomatoes, halved, about 1 cup
