1 (1-pound) fresh center-cut salmon fillet, silver skin and pin bones removed

Baguette, thinly sliced

1/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

Thai Tomato Salsa (see recipe)

Fresh cilantro sprigs, as garnish

Marinade

2 to 4 fresh serrano chiles, seeds included, finely minced

4 garlic cloves, finely minced

1/4 cup finely minced fresh ginger

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

1/2 cup vodka

1/4 cup thin or low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon salt
