Ingredients for 8 servings

This recipe calls for:

1/2 teaspoon salt

Brandy Custard Sauce

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup sugar

Brandy Custard Sauce, (optional, recipe follows)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup golden raisins

4 ounces dried pears

1 tablespoon freshly grated lemon zest

1 cup fresh breadcrumbs made from day-old firm white sandwich bread, (see Tip)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/4 cup chopped crystallized ginger

3 large egg whites

9 whole blanched almonds

1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries, coarsely chopped, plus 9 whole cranberries for garnish

1 teaspoon baking soda
