I think next time I will mix egg and milk mixture together, pour over bread cubes and let sit for 20 minutes to soak through before baking. My bread cubes floated up.

Some steps were missing. Add the melted butter and raisins (if using) to the bread pudding. I had trouble getting the sauce to caramelize. But it still tastes good and honestly the bread pudding is tasty enough without it.

Ingredients for 6 servings

3 cups stale bread, cut into 1- inch cubes

1/2 cup raisins

1/4 cup butter, melted

2 cups milk, warm (or you may use half and half)

5 eggs beaten

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 pinch salt

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup water

2 teaspoons corn syrup

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup Kentucky bourbon

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1 small pinch fleur de sel, optional
