This is a good classic teriyaki sauce. I have successfully used maple syrup instead of sugar and I have also added a little arrowroot powder to thicken it slightly because my kids like it that way. You can use it brushed on salmon on chicken a minute before before coming off the grill.

Ingredients for 4 servings

2 pounds flank steak (or use steak of your choice)

salt and freshly ground pepper

8 ounces button mushrooms, sliced

1 red bell pepper, julienned

1 yellow bell pepper, julienned

1 1/2 tablespoons cooking oil, separated

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)

2 tablespoons sugar (or more if you like a sweet teriyaki)
