Ingredients for 4 servings

1 medium cinnamon stick

2 large garlic cloves , chopped

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup onion , sliced into fine half rings

For marinating the chicken

5 tablespoons grated tomatoes

2-3 teaspoons lemon juice

6 tablespoons finely chopped onions

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast , cut crosswise into 1/8-inch thick slices

1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

4 tablespoons plain yogurt

1/4 teaspoon garam masala

8 whole cardamom pods

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

3 tablespoons corn oil or peanut oil or olive oil

2 inches piece fresh ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

For cooking the chicken

1 teaspoon salt
