9 tbsp. cold lard, cut into 1/2" pieces

9 tbsp. cold margarine, cut into 1/2" pieces

1 cup peeled grated rutabaga (about 1/4 lb.)

1 large russet potato, peeled, halved

lengthwise, and thinly sliced crosswise

1 small yellow onion, chopped

1 lb. chuck steak, cut into 1" pieces

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

1 egg, lightly beaten
