I am glad I tried this after hearing so much about it online. It's different than my usual, and I'd make it again, but I think that it won't be too often. I like the typical sauce with herbs, garlic, wine, etc.

28 ounces (800 grams) whole peeled tomatoes from a can (San Marzano, if you can find them)*

5 tablespoons (70 grams) unsalted butter

1 medium-sized yellow onion, peeled and halved
