1 teaspoon mustard seeds

Large pinch allspice

5 or 6 medium-size waxy potatoes, cut into chunks

5 or 6 carrots, cut into chunks

3 turnips, quartered (or 1/2 rutabaga), peeled, cut into chunks

1 white or Savoy cabbage, cut into wedges

Melted butter and finely chopped parsley (optional)
