1 to 1 1/2 pounds ahi tuna fillet, sliced no more than 1-inch thick

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon vegetable oil

1 large sweet baguette

Mayonnaise, as needed (about 4 tablespoons)

1/2 bunch cilantro, stems trimmed

1 to 2 fresh jalapeno chiles, sliced into very thin rounds
