Loved this biscuit recipe - buttery, flaky and packed with flavor! Didn't have buttermilk on hand so substituted half and half mixed with some creme fraiche' and was really happy with how they turned out. Will make again!

2 cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

¼ teaspoon baking soda

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cubed

1 (7 ounce) can diced green chiles, drained

1 cup mild cheddar, grated

2/3 cup buttermilk

heavy cream for brushing

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

½ lb breakfast sausage

2 tablespoons all purpose flour

1 cup whole milk or half & half

salt to taste
