Ingredients for 16 servings

1/2 cup whole milk

4 large eggs

1 cup vegetable oil

1 package (3 ounces) strawberry gelatin

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese at room temperature

3/4 cup fresh strawberries, rinsed, capped and mashed to make 1/2 cup, and then drained well

1/2 cup granulated sugar

8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter at room temperature

4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

Flour for dusting the pan

1/2 cup finely chopped fresh strawberries and their juice

1 package (18 1/4 ounces) plain white cake mix

Solid vegetable shortening for greasing the pan
