11 sheets phyllo dough, each 12x17 inches

Scant 1/4 tsp. almond extract

1/3 cup sugar

2-1/2 oz. (5 Tbs.) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature 

1-3/4 oz. (1/2 cup) sliced unblanched almonds, toasted and chopped

1 egg

2-1/2 oz. (1/2 cup plus 3 Tbs.) sliced unblanched almonds
