15 Ingredients

  • 1 ½ Tbsps ghee
  • 1 ½ tsps mustard seeds
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 ½ Tbsps fresh grated ginger
  • 2 tsps ground turmeric
  • 1 ½ tsps ground coriander
  • ¾ tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 large tomato, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 2-3 tsps sea salt (based on saltiness of stock)
  • 1 ½ cups red lentils (or any other split lentils)
  • 4 cups water or vegetable stock
  • Accompaniments: whole, plain yogurt, cucumber raita and/or naan
