@Susan, try a mixture of cayenne pepper powder, miso and sugar. It's a sweet and spicy fermented bean paste.

Thanks @Deb. Nothing will quite reproduce the exact flavor since it's fermented soybeans but you cold try Sriracha hot sauce (pretty easily found in grocery stores) OR harissa OR crushed red pepper flakes OR dried red chili peppers. In that order I think. :) It's not that spicy so you won't need as much of those.

@susan, @Phillip is right. If you have an HMart near you, you'll find it there. Some grocers also have it in their "international" section :)

@susan, it's basically a chili paste (like Rooster sauce but Korean). You can probably get it at a local asian grocery or on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Sunchang-500g-Gochujang/dp/B002WTE0MQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_gro_1. Enjoy!
