12 ounces (4 cups) egg noodles, cooked according to package directions and drained

2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature

8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

1 cup cottage cheese

½ cup sour cream or plain nonfat yogurt

½ cup chopped fresh parsley

¾ teaspoon salt

Freshly ground pepper to taste

1 pound ground beef

1 cup chopped yellow onion

1 garlic clove, minced

vegetable oil, as needed

1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce

2 cups grated cheddar cheese
