¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

1½ cups chopped onion (1 medium)

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 teaspoons minced garlic (2 cloves)

1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley

4 cups chicken broth

1 cup light cream or half and half (optional)
