1/2 cup sugar

8 ounces rhubarb, trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces (2 cups)

2 tablespoons quick-cooking tapioca, or 1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 pints strawberries, hulled and thickly sliced

Filling

1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar, divided

1/8 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon teaspoon baking soda

2 tablespoons cold butter, cut into pieces

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
