2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled

1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar (no need to sift)

1/2 cup (1 stick, 4 ounces or 115 grams) unsalted butter, at room temperature

2 tablespoons half-and-half or whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup (2 sticks or 230 grams) unsalted butter, at room temperature

3 3/4 cups (1 1-pound box) powdered sugar, sifted

4 tablespoons half-and-half or whole milk

2 teaspoons vanilla (use less if you want a whiter frosting)
