1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons soy sauce

1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons brown sugar

1/4 cup ketchup

8 large garlic cloves, crushed

1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce + Tabasco to taste

4 pounds country-style spareribs, cut into 3- to 3 1/2-inch pieces, trimmed of excess fat

1 3/4 cups water

1/4 pound pitted prunes, halved

1/4 pound dried pears, quartered

3 cups cooked barley (from Master Recipe)
