I made these for a meatless dinner and my family loved them! My father and son who are big time meat-eaters loved every bite. They want me to make them again!

Be sure to mash beans first as recipe dictates. Potato masher worked quite well but be sure not to over mash. I added a T ground flax seed and also a T chia seed. Plus some Sriacha!! Makes everything better.

I didn't have an onion, so I used onion powder and they were great! The beans were hard to smash with a fork but the food processor did the job.

Ingredients for 6 servings

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or granules

1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 yellow onion, chopped

1 to 2 tablespoons olive or canola oil

1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs

6 green leaf lettuce leaves

1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced

1 teaspoon dried basil

2 tomatoes, sliced

6 whole wheat hamburger buns

Hot sauce to taste

1 egg

Salt and pepper to taste
