8 ounces whole wheat penne or rigatoni pasta or fusilli

fresh ground pepper , to taste

1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese

1 1/2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth

1 cup chopped onion

2 ounces center-cut reduced-fat bacon, chopped
