3 cups fat-skimmed chicken broth

1 cup dry white wine

1/3 cup tomato paste

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves or dried basil

1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano leaves or dried oregano

2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves or dried thyme

Salt and pepper

2 cooked Dungeness crabs (about 2 lb. each), cleaned and cracked (see below)

Fresh basil sprigs (optional)
