I found the same exact recipe on can also make this in a slow cooker by reducing the stock to 3/4 cup. I did brown the chicken first though.

I cut up onions instead of whole shallots, added carrots, used 2 cups stock instead of 3, added the dates with the stock and then pureed a little of the sauce to thicken it. Absolutely delicious.

Ingredients for 4 servings

3-4 pounds bone in chicken pieces: breasts, thighs, and drumsticks

Salt and pepper

1 tablespoon all purpose flour

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

2 pounds shallots, whole, peeled

3 cinnamon sticks

1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

3 cups low-salt chicken broth

5 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, divided

12 dates, pitted, halved

1/4 cup almonds, toasted, coarsely chopped

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
