  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, minced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 to 2 tsps crushed red pepper flakes, or more if desired
  • 1 26 oz box (or 1 28 oz can) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 large pinch kosher salt
  • 3 to 4 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 Tbsps unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¼ cup finely grated parmesan cheese
