1 bag (1 pound) coleslaw mix

2 strips uncooked bacon, cut into 1/4-inch pieces

1 carrot, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes

1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and cut into eighths

1 bay leaf

3 cloves garlic, smashed

1 teaspoon caraway seeds (may substitute cumin seeds)

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup dry vermouth

1 rack (2 pounds) baby back ribs, rubbed on both sides with Pork Rub (see related recipe)
